Marked on the backside of the arched top casting with "
New Universal
"
I also marked "
Patented  Dec  2?  1894
". There is a casting defect so cannot read the complete date in December.
Great usable or collectible garden cultivator.
Very similar in many respects to " Planet Jr ".
I have had this for several years in my own collection.
The painting was done before I acquired it. It was from another collector's estate.
Unknown if the paint scheme is correct, especially the mustard yellow handles.
Unknown if the handles are original. They are solid enough though for actual usage but looks like they were for the most part just painted over the wood as it was.
There is a piece of threaded "redi-rod" under the wooden cross brace (that rod is not original).
Please look closely at the photos.
There are no know repairs, breaks, or welds to the metal casting pieces.
This will be taken completely apart for shipping.
All the bolts and nuts are easily loose for taking apart & later assembly.
You will have to assemble.
So this will ship in 2 separate boxes/packages (lower metal parts in 1 box, and handles packaged in another).
I will ship via USPS or UPS at my discretion.
